A Local Hilton Head Islander Since 1970...
Having grown up a native island local since1970, Captain Kent Bird has fished just about every piece of water imaginable in the lowcountry. Bit by the fishing bug at an early age, Captain Kent scoured the island's ponds, creeks and estuaries seeking out all types of fishing and terrain. Back in the early 70's, most all the ponds on Hilton Head were fresh water. Largemouth Bass fishing at that time was phenomenal. It was not uncommon to catch 100 bass on any given afternoon of throwing crankbaits and topwater. Stormwater drainage development programs pretty much connected all the ponds on the island around the mid 80's and most all of the fresh water ponds became brackish or completely salt. It was always fun fishing topwater for largemouth and hooking a tarpon only to see him break your line while jumping away.
As an eager young fisherman, he knew the way to the deep water was aboard sportfishing boats. He honed his knowledge of boat cleaning and soon after had worked his way into mating aboard a number of island charter boats. His worldly fishing ventures include Sweden, Scotland, Alaska, the Baja, the Gulf coast, Southwest Florida, the Florida Keys, all over the Bahamas from Bimini to San Salvador, but mostly in the Carolinas, especially right here off Hilton Head Island. He has seen some incredible "bites" in his life and has more stories that facinate his customers. He fishes Hilton Head Island because it truly is his home and he wants you to know that at certain times of the year, the fishing here on Hilton Head rivals anywhere he has travelled. Do not miss the opportunity.
